Cadet: Christy Hunt
Age: 33 | City: Morgan Hill, Calif.
Christy has given birth to six children, and used running to get back into shape after each birth. She’s completed several 5Ks, but as she says, “I wanted to up my game after this baby!” The marathon has always been on her bucket list, and despite a busy schedule keeping up with kids and working as a nurse, she’s ready to cross it off the list. “I love running,” she says. “I created a running group with other moms for support. But my ultimate goal is to complete a marathon. I don’t care if I come in last—just finishing is very important to me.”
Vet: Betty Taylor
Age: 47 | City: Pleasanton, Calif.
Betty Taylor ran her first marathon in March, and it was a life changing experience for her. “At mile 9 I met another runner, Marty, who’s longest run to date was 13.1 miles. He wanted to run/walk, which was the strategy I was using. He asked to join me and we ran the rest of the way together. We celebrated every mile after the halfway point as the longest he had ever run. At 23 miles we started doing that for me as well. It was fantastic sharing the experience with Marty, and I would enjoy pairing with another first-timer for my second marathon.”
