Almost 300 runners gathered at Bear Basin Ranch just outside of Westcliffe, Colo., on June 2 for the first annual Hardscrabble Mountain Trail Run 5K/10K. Created as a fundraiser for the San Isabel Land Protection Trust, the Palmer Land Trust, and the Tarahumara runners from Copper Canyon in Mexico, the race provided the opportunity for racers to run side by side with Tarahumara runners, at least at the start, on beautiful, high-elevation trails. After the run, all enjoyed live music, a raffle and a relaxing afternoon at the Ranch.
