The two-day event follows the IAAF World Junior Championships at Hayward Field.
Run TrackTown, a celebration of running in the sport’s unofficial U.S. capital of Eugene, Ore., will make its debut next July.
The event, held July 26-27, will feature a 5k race and a kids 1k race on the first day, and a half- and full marathon on Sunday.
Run TrackTown follows the IAAF World Junior Championships, which take place at Eugene’s Hayward Field July 22-27.
“In the Run TrackTown weekend our primary focus will be catering to the runner’s experience,” said Vin Lananna, President of TrackTown USA and Associate Athletic Director of Olympic Development at the University of Oregon, on GoDucks.com. “By offering an all-comers meet for boys and girls in addition to road races and hosting them all on the same weekend as the IAAF World Junior Championships, we hope to connect the road running and track and field communities. Hayward Field is the perfect venue for fostering those connections.”
The Eugene Marathon was first held in 2007 and typically takes place in April. It’s known for being fast and flat.
“The Eugene Marathon believes this will be the ultimate weekend experience for runners and their families,” said Eugene Marathon founder and organizer Andy Heily. “The country doesn’t have a premier summer marathon. Moving our race fills this void and allows runners to train during spring and early summer. Plus, the weather will be ideal for fast times.”
Registration for the Eugene Marathon opens Sept. 9.
