He has led his team to a section championships.

Pretty much any coach can get runners from the start line to the finish, but it takes a special kind of caring leader to inspire athletes.

That’s where Justin Torres comes in.

The coach from Bishop Mora Salesian High School led the Mustangs to their first section championship in 32 years this past year. Running USA has reported about it–specific to Torres being selected as Brooks Running Company’s Inspiring Coach of the Year for 2013. In addition, Torres has motivated handfuls of young athletes to attend college. Of this group, five earned athletic scholarships.

“The Brooks Inspiring Coaches program is our way of honoring and thanking those who direct, mentor and inspire our next generation of runners,” said Brooks Running CEO Jim Weber. “The profound impression these leaders make on their athletes cultivates growth in running and in life. For the runners at Salesian High School, Coach Torres does that and more.”

For his efforts, Torres will receive $10,000 in Brooks performance running gear and $2500 in cash.
