At least nine runners have broken Roger Bannister’s famous barrier.

Running USA has the latest rundown on one of the largest U.S. road miles, the 2nd GNC Live Well Liberty Mile, slated for Aug. 9 in Pittsburgh.

A prize purse of $31,000 has attracted a huge field of top talent. In the mix are nine sub-4:00 milers that will go for the $4,000 champion’s purse awarded to the overall winner.

One pre-race favorite is Jordan McNamara, who finished second last year. McNamara was outkicked by winner Craig Miller in the final 50 meters at the nighttime event.

The 26-year-old McNamara is enjoying a fabulous season this year, setting a new PR in the 1500 (3:34:00) while taking part in the European circuit this summer.

“Spectators who come to enjoy the GNC Liberty Mile will be treated to a world-class spectacle with the nation’s best milers going head-to-head on urban streets,” McNamara said. “I’m hoping my finishing kicks gets me to the finish line tape first.”
