That Was Then

When the women’s running revolution began in the ’70s, ladies ran in their everyday bras, resulting in chafe, wayward straps and sore chests. In 1977, runners Lisa Lindahl and Linda Schreiber with costume designer Polly Smith stitched two jock straps together to make the first running bra. Initially called the Jockbra, their design provided support with stay-put straps and no pokey hardware.
