When the first running boom hit some 40 or so years ago, runners seemed to have limited apparel options: short shorts, singlets and cotton tees. If it got cold outside, cotton sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts were the best ways to keep warm. These trends held true for another two decades as runners rocked the same style of tops and bottoms regardless of their body type or where they were running. Variety in your running wardrobe wasn’t necessarily discouraged — it just wasn’t available.
