The lost pooch ran with 2,000 competitors in Indiana last Saturday.
His name is Boogie, and according to the Evansville Courier and Press in Indiana, this dog is one serious runner.
Boogie, a chocolate lab, completed the YMCA Half Marathon in Evansville last weekend. He accompanied runners just after the race began and ran the 13.1 miles with the crowd to the finish.
At the race’s end, no one knew who his owner was and he was locked up by officials.
However, the 100-pound canine was eventually claimed by owner Jerry Butts, who said he got free from his leash last Friday evening.
Runner Kim Arney ran with Boogie for the last three miles of the race.
“I lost my race buddy about mile 4 or 5 and picked up a new one around mile 10,” she said.
Butts went looking for his running-dog on Saturday.
“I could hear him barking soon as I got out the car. … Right then [a woman at Animal Control] said, ‘Your dog is an Internet celebrity, and you’re going to have to have proof it’s yours,'” he recalled.
