Deena Kastor and Meb Keflezighi will support the organization as ambassadors.

California Runners, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to unify the running community in California, is open for business and is soliciting members.

The organization, founded by a group of five collegiate All-American runners and an Olympic Trials qualifier, has the support of its two ambassadors: Deena Kastor and Meb Keflezighi. Its website, californiarunners.org, went live on Wednesday.

Membership is just $46 for the first year and $350 for those who want to be members for life. Included in the new members package is a technical t-shirt that says “California Runners Founder,” which will only be produced for first-year members.

Other benefits include discounts on races and guaranteed entries.

James and Mimi Nielsen, Sergio and Morgan Gonzalez, and JT Service are the club’s founders.

“Two of my teachers started a running club when I was in 7th grade,” said James Nielsen in a press release. “Little did I know that introduction to running would launch a lifelong passion that has affected every day of my life since. I never thought I would run in high school, college or professionally. I hope to return the favor and that California Runners gives our youth and community members an opportunity to start or enhance their running careers.”

Club members will educate the public on healthy living, while the organization will sponsor running events throughout the state of California.

“California Runners is ‘Running Central’ for this great state,” Kastor said. “From youth, to high school, to college, to professional and Masters, California has the best running schools, programs, club system, training locations and races than anywhere in the world I have traveled. For this reason my husband Andrew and I have chosen to live, train and race in this great state and we now have a central place to turn for all our running questions and ideas thanks to California Runners.”
