It will now be called the GORE-TEX Philadelphia Marathon.
With the recent news about the New York City Marathon’s recent title-sponsor change, it turns out another large-city race is following suit: the Philadelphia Marathon.
Philly.com’s Kelly O’Shea reports that the 26.2-mile event in the “City of Brotherly Love” will now be called the GORE-TEX Philadelphia Marathon.
“We wanted a partner that would work with us to enhance the reputation of excellence that has placed us among the top marathons in the country,” said Mayor Michael Nutter of the search for a sponsor. “We looked for a partner that would be committed to enhancing the runner experience; a partner that is also innovative in the technology that can help support runners goals on race day and we found that partner in GORE-TEX.”
The Philadelphia Marathon celebrates its 20th anniversary on the weekend of Nov. 17.
“We were looking at other races throughout the country, but Philadelphia immediately came to the top of our list,” said Kirk Christensen, Global Leader of Running Footwear for GORE-TEX.
