The New York City Marathon made a triumphant return this year after being canceled in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy. A record 50,740 runners started the race, making it the largest marathon ever held anywhere in the world. The weather was cool, breezy and mostly cloudy all day, helping a record number of runners finish the race. Security was upgraded this year after the bombing at April’s Boston Marathon, with the NYPD making a presence all over the course from Staten Island to the finish in Central Park.
