The money will assist with recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.
According to a recently issued press release, the governing body of the New York City Marathon, the New York Road Runners, will be partnering with the Staten Island borough to make a $125,000 Staten Island Day donation in order to assist with recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.
“We were honored to partner with Borough President Molinaro to create Staten Island Day and raise significant funds to help the borough continue to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy,” said NYRR CEO Mary Wittenberg. “The Staten Island Half-Marathon is one of NYC’s marquee running events, and we were thrilled that this year’s race served as the cornerstone for a day dedicated to supporting and celebrating Staten Island.”
Staten Island Day took place on October 13 and was organized to positively impact the communities of that New York City borough. A half marathon and 1.5-mile fun fun were organized as part of the occasion.
