Runners Recreate Rocky’s Famous Run

The boxer covered a reported 50K throughout Philadelphia in the film.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a group of Rocky fans, runners, have recently paid tribute to their boxing hero. In the movie Rocky 2, Sylvester Stalone’s character is filmed running throughout various parts of Philadelphia, measured at approximately 50K.

Last weekend, ultramarathoners recreated this scene, showing that it’s possible.

“If you actually look at where he runs, he’s all over the city,” said 25-year-old¬†Rebecca Schaefer, who lives in Philadelphia’s Center City. “That’s a lot for someone to undertake without serious training.”

Schaefer, who has run 100 miles, organized the run, which was without any of the typical amenities at a race such as water stations, food stations, bibs, or medals.

Some of the participants dressed up in gray training sweats which were popular back in the 1970s. Another runner,¬†Phil Yurkon, wore a “Lithuanian Stallion” sweatshirt and boxing gloves. Apparently, he hadn’t run more than 17 miles in training.
