Day 9: Wednesday, January 15
Brian Metzler, Editor-in-Chief: A couple of colleagues who are in training for a half marathon invited me to join them for a tempo run. We warmed up with about 15 minutes EZ on a mostly flat dirt trail, then rolled into a progression-style 20-minute tempo effort in which we started at 7:45 mile pace and gradually increased to about 6:50 mile pace. It was a good effort for sure.
Mario Fraioli, Senior Editor: Wednesday is workout day for the Prado Racing Team, a group of women I coach here in San Diego. I warmed up and cooled down with them around the UCSD campus, totaling 5 miles of running on the day.
Caitlyn Pilkington, Associate Editor: Another 20 on the elliptical with hills and a round of arms for 20 minutes. A lot of stretching and foam rolling will be happening the next few days, and I’m excited to get back into the pool next week.
Jason Devaney, Associate Web Editor: I put in a productive 40-minute swim that included some technique work. My coach has me doing a lot of sets with paddles to improve my catch and pull. I did mostly 100s, using a combination of paddles, fins and a pull buoy, with an easy 200 to finish the workout. Things are coming together with my swim stroke, albeit slowly.
Allison Pattillo, Contributing Editor: Did a half day of alpine skiing and then went for an EZ 5K run to shake out my legs. Fun day, but super smoked.
