NASCAR Drivers To Run Daytona Beach Half Marathon

Jimmie Johnson and Michael Waltrip among those participating.

The Central Florida Sports Commission, Volusia County and the Daytona International Speedway will host the Daytona Beach Half Marathon, Lap the Track and Kids Race on Sunday February 16. Prior to turning two qualifying laps in the Daytona 500 Qualifying Presented by Kroger, NASCAR drivers will run in the half marathon.

Among the NASCAR drivers that will be participating are six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner Jimmie Johnson and two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip.

Johnson finished last year’s race in 1:29:48, his first half marathon. “I am hurting right now,” Johnson told the News-Journal Online. “This is my first half and the last three miles were tough, but I finished my goal and I am happy about that.”
