The Boston company wants to reach a lofty number before the Boston Marathon.
Boston-based company RunKeeper has put a challenge out to those who use its app: Run 118 million miles before the Boston Marathon.
From March 1-April 21, RunKeeper is keeping track of how many miles its users run, bike or walk. The goal is to hit 118 million miles, as this year is the 118th edition of the Boston Marathon.
“The tragic events at last year’s Boston Marathon affected us deeply, as both a Boston company and a global fitness community,” reads the project’s website, 118forboston.com. “But we noticed something remarkable afterwards — that runners and fitness enthusiasts everywhere used their grief as fuel to push themselves to move more than ever.”
A ticker atop the website shows the real-time mileage number. As of early afternoon Thursday, 20.6 million miles had been logged.
Users are asked to post their workouts — and miles — to Runkeeper with the hashtag #118forBoston. An image grid on the website will display users that do so.
