The coverage will honor those affected by the tragic events of April 15, 2013.
The Universal Sports Network has announced its TV and online coverage of the Boston Tribute event to be held April 15 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The event will honor runners and spectators who were affected by last year’s Boston Marathon bombings, including those who lost their lives, survivors, medical personnel, and first responders.
Universal Sports will stream the event live on its website, UniversalSports.com. A one-hour show on its TV network will air at 6 p.m. ET. The start time for the live stream has yet to be determined. At 7 p.m. ET, the network will re-air the elite competition at the 2013 race.
The network is working with its distribution partners — Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Verizon FiOS, Google Fiber, DIRECT TV, DISH, and other smaller cable providers — to provide free previews of the station for the week leading up to the race and on race day, April 21.
“Our network is truly inspired by the personal stories of those who were affected by last year’s events,” Universal Sports Network President Scott Brown said in a press release. “We hope our coverage demonstrates the perseverance and resilience of the survivors, marathon runners and entire City of Boston.”
In addition to the Boston Tribute event, Universal Sports is currently broadcasting (on TV and online) the 15-episode “Run as One” short-form video series that gives first-hand accounts of the bombings.
