Photos: 2014 World Half Marathon Championships

Kenyan athletes ruled the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Saturday in Copenhagen, as they won the men’s, women’s, and women’s team titles.

Geoffrey Kipsang was the men’s champion after breaking away from the other leaders late in the race. He crossed the finish line in 59:08, 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Samuel Tsegaye (Eritrea) and third-place finisher Guye Adola (Ethiopia).

The women’s race was an all-Kenyan affair, with the nation taking the top five spots — led by the 1:07:29 performance of Gladys Cherono. Behind her was Mary Wacera Ngugi (1:07:44), Selly Chepyego Kaptich (1:07:52), Lucy Wangui Kabuu (1:08:37), and Mercy Jerotich Kibarus (1:08:42).

Americans in the men’s race were Josphat Boit (1:01:33), Tyler Pennel (1:02:20), Matt Llano (1:02:25), Shadrack Kiptoo Biwott (1:02:28), and Fernando Cabada Jr. (1:02:54. The women’s field also featured five U.S. runners: Annie Bersagel (1:10:10), Lauren Kleppin (1:10:16), Clara Santucci (1:12:22), Mattie Suver (1:12:42), and Wendy Thomas (1:14:07).
