The 41-year-old Kastor won last year’s event in 1:13:25, and was victorious at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half two weeks ago.
Deena Kastor will compete in the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half Marathon in two weeks, it was announced Tuesday.
The New York Road Runners, which organizes the race, said the April 13 event will draw more than 20,000 runners and spectators. Kastor won last year’s race in 1:13:25, which broke the event record.
“I am so excited to return to New York for the More/Fitness Half,” the 41-year-old Kastor said in the NYRR release. “As I look forward to defending my title there, I am more excited to be a part of the entire weekend, as it’s truly a celebration of women, health, and fitness.”
The 13.1-mile, women-only race makes two loops around Central Park and is open to walkers and runners.
Kastor most recently won the Rock ’n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon in a time of 1:11:57. She broke two records during the race, the U.S. Masters marks at 10 miles and 20K.
“Deena is such an inspiring role model for the empowerment that women are able to demonstrate through running,” NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg said. “The More/Fitness Half-Marathon is an amazing event. To have Deena on hand, defending her title during another record-setting year, will be the highlight of the race weekend.”
Registration is still open for the race.
