These protein-packed snack chips pack a flavorful punch.
Getting enough protein in your diet—especially when it comes to post-workout or race recovery—has been a hot topic in recent years. As a result, dozens of drinks, powdered supplements and bars fortified with some type of supplemental protein have emerged.
Here’s a new one: healthy snack chips chock full of protein. ProTings baked crisps are packed with 15 grams of protein per serving. They’re vegan, kosher, soy-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, and have only 120 calories and 7 carbs per serving. According to the packaging, the leading ingredients in ProTings are pea protein isolate, potato flakes, flex seeds, sunflower oil and guar gum, along with a variety of natural flavors and seasonings.
The Brooklyn, N.Y.-based brand was started by 20-somethings Krik Angacian and Ryan Wiltse, a couple of former college buddies who sensed a need for better protein-enhanced snacks. The company officially debuted last year, but it has recently re-launched its products with an improved formula, new packaging and more flavors (Chili Lime, Tangy Southern BBQ and Sea Salt).
We did an informal taste-test at Competitor and found that ProTings taste pretty darn good and have a consistent crunch, although best served with a cold beverage of choice. The BBQ flavor was definitely the favorite flavor among our testers.
ProTings come in 1 oz. ($1.99) and 4 oz. ($3.99) bags and are available at a variety of health-oriented grocery stores around the U.S. and on Amazon.com.
