Photos: 2015 Peachtree Road Race

The 2015 edition of the Peachtree Road Race—the largest road race in the United States—took place Saturday in Atlanta under rainy skies that didn’t deter the 60,000 runners who participated. Lightning in the area even suspended the race for about 30 minutes, though it was completed.

The winner of the open events was Alexi Pappas for the women’s race in 33:28, while the men’s race came down to a photo finish, with Scott Overall coming from behind to win in 29:30, one second ahead of Ben Payne (who looked to be celebrating just before crossing).

A new concept in this year’s elite race was the Peachtree Cup, which pitted teams from USA, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Shalane Flanagan of the U.S. was the top women’s finisher in the Peachtree Cup race, and American men Tyler Pennel, Christo Landry and Bobby Curtis finished 2-3-4 in the men’s race. But Team Africa eked out a victory behind strong performances from Valentine Kibet and Gebre Gebremariam.
