At 2:45 p.m. PST today elite marathon runner Sarah Hall tweeted, “Incredibly sad to not be toeing the line on Patriot’s Day despite pouring my heart and soul into this buildup. Boston, I’ll be back for you.” Hall announced her disappointment in dropping out of Boston due to an injury to her sacroiliac joint saying, “Though I’m back running now, I have lost too much fitness to perform well and not risk re-injuring it.”
Hall is one of three elites to announce their withdrawal from the marathon today due to injuries. Portuguese runner Jessica Augusto and Kenyan-Bahraini runner Eunice Kirwa will also drop out of the race; neither has commented further.
In a longer post on Instagram, Hall continued, “I’m hoping with some more training I can put the massive amount of hard work towards some future races. I’ve seen God redeem things time and time again in my career, so now it’s not ‘if,’ but I look forward to seeing ‘how.’ I will be cheering loudly for an American win on Patriot’s Day!”
