A Night With The Stars

  • Chrissie Wellington: Chrissie broke her own course record at Challenge Roth by going 8:18:13 while finishing fifth overall. Despite a bad crash two weeks before Kona, she went on to win her fourth Ironman World Championship Title.
  • Craig Alexander: Craig won both the Ironman 70.3 World championship at Lake Las Vegas and his third Ironman World Triathlon Championship in 2011, setting a new course record in Kona (8:03:56).
  • Apolo Anton Ohno ran his first marathon in New York in 3:25:14 and raised $26,200 for Special Olympics through that race. A Short Track Speedskater, Ohno is the most decorated American Winter Olympic athlete in history with 8 medals (2 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze).   • Danny Hart: Danny from England had a ride for the ages at the UCI World Downhill Mountain Bike Championships. Despite treacherous conditions on a brutal course, Hart never stopped pushing the pace and ended up with his first UCI Mountain Bike World Championship Title.
  • Jenny Barringer Simpson:  Jenny became the first American Woman to win the 1500 meters at the IAAF World Championships since Mary Decker Slaney back in 1983. Jenny also won the 5th Avenue Mile.
  • Ned Overend: Ned won the 1990 UCI  World Mountain Bike Championship, was a six-time NORBA National champion and has been inducted into both the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and the US Bicycling Hall of Fame.
  • Andre Kajlich: Andre lost both legs above the knee when he was run over by a train in Prague. 2011 was his first year racing a handcycle and he had an amazing rookie season. He took second at the New York City Triathlon and qualified for the ITU World Championships in Beijing where he took home the silver. Then he went to Kona for his first Ironman World Championship and won another silver medal.
  • Meb Keflezighi: The 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist and 2009 New York City Marathon Champion had two epic back to back races late in the season. He set a personal best in New York in November and then came back 69 days later and became the oldest U.S. athlete to ever win the Olympic Marathon Trials with his second personal best in little over two months.
  • Lukas Verzbicas became the 5th American high school runner ever to break 4:00 minutes for the mile (3:59.71) and he set the national high school record for the two mile with an 8:29. In September he showed his versatility by also winning the ITU Junior World Triathlon Championship in Beijing.
  • Jim Knaub: A five- time Boston Marathon Champion in the wheelchair division.
  • Dave Scott: A six- time winner of the Ironman Triathlon World Championship and the first inductee into the Ironman Triathlon Hall of Fame.
  • Dara Torres: Dara has been to five Olympic Games and has taken home an amazing 12 Olympic Medals- 4 gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. At the age of 44 she is training to try and qualify for her sixth Olympic team this summer in the 50 meter freestyle.
  • Chris Lieto has won three Ironmantitles and in 2009 he finished second to Craig Alexander in Kona at the Ironman Triathlon World Championship.Rudy Garcia Tolson: The first double above knee amputee to finish Ironman Arizona and a two- time Paralympic Gold Medalist at the 200 Individual Medley.
  • Josh Cox: A four time U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, he starred on ‘The Bachelorette’ and holds the American Record at 50K on the roads.
  • Bob Seagren: One of the greatest pole vaulters in history, he has won both an Olympic Gold and Silver Medal in the event.
  • Abdi Abdiraham won the 2008 U.S. 10,000 Meter Olympic Trials, has gone 27:16 for 10,000, 2:08:56 for the marathon and just qualified for his fourth Olympic team, this time in the marathon.
  • Michellie Jones won a Silver Medal in the first ever Olympic Triathlon in 2000 and, six years later, won the Ironman World Championship title as well.
  • Kathleen McCartney Hearst and Julie Moss had a race for the ages 30 years ago back in February of 1982. Hearst won, Moss took second but it was a race no one would ever forget and it put Ironman on the map.
  • Dean Karnazes is the Ultramarathon Man and the Badwater Champion. This past year he ran 3,000 miles across the U.S. in 75 days, averaging 50 miles a day.
  • Rod Dixon took home the Olympic Bronze Medal in 1972 at 1500 meters and, 11 years later, won the New York City Marathon in 2:08:59.
  • Ricky Berens: In 2008 he won a Gold Medal in Beijing as part of the men’s 4 x 200 meter relay team with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay. They set a world record with a 6:58:56.
  • Sarah Reinertsen lost her leg above the knee when she was a little girl, but that did little to slow her down. A star on ‘The Amazing Race,’ in 2005 she became the first above knee amputee woman to finish the Ironman World Championship.
  • Dr. Andy Baldwin: He was a star on ‘The Bachelor’ and is a multiple time marathon and Ironman finisher.
