This morning, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced several international elites who will be participating in the event including past champions Abel Kirui and Dickson Chumba on the men’s side (both from Kenya). For the women’s field, 2017 runner-up Brigid Kosgei (KEN) and two-time podium finisher Ethiopian Birhane Dibaba will also make their way back to the starting line in Grant Park.

“We have put together an exciting elite field, and it should be a fast race to the top of the podium,” said Bank of America Chicago Marathon executive race director Carey Pinkowski in a statement. “This year’s elite field is a collection of some of the best international and American athletes running on the global stage today. We are confident that they will continue the great tradition of memorable and record setting performances in Chicago.”

The newest additions to the lineup will join already-announced runners Mo Farah (GBR), Suguru Osako (JPN) and Yuki Kawauchi (JPN), this year’s Boston Marathon champion in the men’s open division. Among this year’s elite field are also nine women (three Americans) who’ve clocked marathon times of 2:25 or faster and 11 men who have run 2:07 or faster.

Five of the top eight men and two of the top seven women also placed on top of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Series XI leaderboard. Five international elites will make their Chicago Marathon debut this year: Augustine Choge, Hugh Williams and Alexi Pappas.
